NextClass privacy policy

NextClass is an Android app that converts timetable photos into offline schedules and class reminders using multimodal AI. I'm Muhammad Zakria, and I built it. This page explains in plain English what the app does with your data and permissions.

The short version

No account, no ads, no third-party trackers, and no telemetry in the app.

To extract your class schedule from a photo, NextClass sends the timetable image over an encrypted HTTPS connection directly to Google's Gemini Vision API. The image is processed in real time and is never stored on a remote server by NextClass.

Everything else stays locally on your phone. NextClass does not run a backend user database, and I never receive your schedules, photos, or personal files.

What leaves your phone

Timetable image processing via Gemini API

When you tap 'Extract classes', NextClass sends your chosen photo to Google's Gemini Vision endpoint over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The request carries:

  • •An ephemeral base64 image payload of your schedule sheet;
  • •A structured system prompt defining timetable extraction rules;
  • •The app's API authentication key (identifying the app, not your personal identity).

Like any internet request, your IP address is visible to Google during the API call. Gemini parses the image into JSON slots and returns it directly to your device. NextClass does not save, share, or link these images to any user profile.

What stays on your phone

NextClass stores all timetable data in private local app storage on your device:

  • •Extracted subjects, instructor names, lecture timings, and room numbers;
  • •Your manual schedule edits and timetable customizations;
  • •Upcoming quizzes, deadlines, syllabus notes, and exam dates;
  • •Notification preferences and alert offsets.

The home screen timetable widgets and upcoming class cards read strictly from this local storage. Your timetable is never synced to a proprietary cloud server. Clearing app storage or uninstalling NextClass permanently erases all of it.

Permissions

CameraOPTIONAL

Used strictly when you choose 'Take a photo' to scan a physical timetable sheet directly from the app.

Photos & Media / StorageOPTIONAL

Used to choose an existing timetable screenshot or PDF image from your device gallery.

NotificationsCORE FEATURE

To deliver pre-class lecture reminders and quiz alerts so you don't miss upcoming sessions.

Alarms & RemindersEXACT TIMING

Allows exact timing delivery so lecture and quiz notifications arrive at the precise minute, even when the phone is in battery-saving sleep.

Run at startupBACKGROUND

To automatically reschedule your lecture and quiz reminder alarms after your device reboots.

What NextClass doesn't do

  • •It doesn't ask you to create an account, log in, or provide an email address or phone number.
  • •It doesn't display advertisements or embed ad network SDKs.
  • •It doesn't bundle third-party analytics, behavioral tracking, or crash-reporting trackers.
  • •It doesn't sell, rent, or trade your academic schedules with any third parties.

If installed through Google Play, Google handles the download and install counts under its standard store policies and diagnostic sharing.

Your choices

  • •
    Camera / Photos: Deny or revoke at any time in Android Settings > Apps > NextClass > Permissions. You can always add classes manually without camera access.
  • •
    Reminders: Toggle off inside NextClass's settings or silence via Android notification channels.
  • •
    Deleting your data: In Android Settings > Apps > NextClass > Storage, tap Clear Storage or simply uninstall the application. Since no data is kept on remote servers, your data is wiped immediately.

Children

NextClass does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. There are no accounts, and all schedule information resides locally on the device.

Security

All timetable scan requests are transmitted strictly over TLS/HTTPS encryption. Your schedules and quiz notes sit in private Android sandboxed app storage, isolated from other applications.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. For material changes, a notice will also be included in the app's release notes.
